I can't believe it's taken me so long to visit this place. It dark frontage makes it feel more late night and speakeasy then cafe, but when you step through the doors it feel delightfully warm and cosy, the red walls are adorned with posters, and there's free books lined up on shelfs which you can take away.
The coffee is delicious and fresh, and the guy who owns it, super friendly. I didn't get to try any of the food, but what I saw looked delicious - massive baguettes for under £3. I'll be trying one next time I visit, but am aware that he sells out often so you have to get there early.
The only downside for me is that there is no WIFI, as this would be a pretty lovely place to take your laptop and work from - but maybe that the idea, they want people to chat in a corner or read a book rather than be linked to their screens.
A fantastic coffee shop on North Street - go visit if you haven't already -

Hennesseys is in a part of town I don't often visit, but I made a point of coming here after hearing some enthusiastic recommendations. I invited a business colleague, which was perhaps not the best idea, as it was very noisy and hard to talk.
It seems popular with mums, which makes for a busy atmosphere (and a little crowded), yet also quite nice. I wouldn't use Hennesseys for work in future, but rather as a quick stop-off for a piece of cake and a single-shot cappuccino.
The look is old-fashioned, with dark wood and lots of old books. The staff are friendly, which is always good. They look like they enjoy working there, and it makes you want to go back.
Prices are good, too. I only wish there was a volume control for toddlers. -

Just as coffee lounges should be, a relaxed ambiance for all who enter.
Great for a coffee and book read, or my personal favourite, a bit of a people watch. I have to confess I only go in when one of the window seats are free, I get myself either a cappuccino or, if I don't want coffee induced hyperactiverty, I have a simple hot chocolate, both are reasonably priced.
For what would seem from the outisde as a reasonable coffee house, Hennessey's surprises, the shell is not invinting but once inside you are pulled from the, more often than not, drab tail end of North street and given all the time in the worl to enjoy your coffee.
Friendly service, good price.

Terracotta-walled ambience, sensible food, aromatic coffees and a bookshelf leaden with thumb-eared novels all within easy reach of your seat, Hennessey's is a homely oasis lodged between the less-salubrious East Street and the more fashionable North St on the Bedminster/Southville divide.
Seldom over-crowded, which is more to do with its location than anything lacking, this perfectly-formed café should get big kudos not only for its award-winning cakes but for setting up stall in what might be deemed a bridgehead move in an up-and-coming neighbourhood.
So respect to them - of course once they proven that it works no doubt the larger concerns will come looking - ce qui sera. Until then Hennessy's holds its own as a local café that likes to keep it local. -

Hennesseys, is one of those places that immediately washes away your worries. As you walk in the door find a spot to sit in and order a coffee, everything is put in perspective.
The management have certainly managed to strike a very good balance between cosy and up tight. They shop serves proper coffee and undoubtedly offers a change form the standard run of the mill coffee shops that ow litter our streets. Their sandwiches are delicious don't miss out.
